Sunday Liturgy With Children

We invite all our children to a celebation which is an extension of the main assembly's celebration. The celebration of the word with children--or, Liturgy of the Word, is part of the eucharistic liturgy.

Kid's Church

Each week at our 9:00 AM mass from September until June, children (3-12 years) are invited to participate in this Sunday Celebration of the Word with Children. It draws children into the life and work of Jesus so that God's word might take flesh in them, as it did in Jesus, giving glory to God every day in the way they share God's love-unconditionally. It is the ritual celebration of God's own presence with us.

Children of catechetical age, especially those preparing for Confirmation, Eucharist or Reconciliation are encouraged to participate in the Sunday Celebration of the Word on a regular basis.

How to Register

Children are welcome to start at anytime of the year, however, September is the appropriate time because there is a progression to their experience and time is spent introducing the children to the Celebration of God's Word.

Procedure

During the entrance hymn the Celebrant and Ministers begin the procession down the centre aisle followed by three green banners - one on each main aisle. The Leaders with the Sunday Liturgy are also present. Children are encouraged to join in the procession at this time and follow the banners down to the Lower Sacristy meeting room to experience the Word of God and celebrate the day's Reading and Gospel.

After the Gospel, the youngest children (3-7 years) depart to the Parish Hall meeting room for a Reflection of the Gospel. Using stories, songs, action, rhymes, art activities and prayer the Gospel is reflected for the children to participate at their level of understanding.

The children return to their parents during the offertory.

Leaders

The leader's primary task is to awake in children a sense of God's presence in the word proclaimed.

Concerns

We encourage parents to call the coordinators to ask questions or address concerns - telephone numbers are made available. Parents may also go downstairs to the Parish Hall between 8:30 and 8:50 AM where preparations are made for the celebration to speak directly to a leader at that time.

Volunteers

Parents and volunteers are always welcome - and needed! Feel free to attend our meetins that are advertised in the parish bulletin.

For your information, our Leaders have all completed a screening process as per diocesan policy to work with your children.
